 WHITNEY BRIDGES >> NANCY WILSON

Guitar & Vocals

A native of the North Carolina foothills, Whitney's passion for playing music began early. After beginning piano lessons at the age of 5, her mother noticed her picking out by ear the tunes her 9 year-old sister was learning, and realized Whitney's natural talent. Her lessons continued, and by age 11 she began studying violin and also joined the church choir. During her senior year in high school, she received her first guitar as a Christmas gift. Within weeks, Whitney had learned enough chords on the guitar to play entire songs. She continued playing and performing guitar and piano through her teens, and also while attending the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

After graduating from UNC, She and a work associate turned weekly jam sessions into performances at local venues. The duo was known for their wacky B-side covers, playing the songs that everyone knew, but didn't always get to hear from the typical acoustic set. She began to write original music at this time as well, and became a regular artist at the popular Double Door Inn's Singer-Songwriter nights, and often backed-up the members of Jolene on a song or two. In the late nineties, she played keys with area pop-rockers Leisure McCorkle, which gave her plenty of stage exposure at clubs up and down the east coast.

Armed with a "rock-hard-and-kick-butt" attitude, Whitney moved to Los Angeles in the spring of 2001, with hopes of greater inspiration in the surroundings of a more creative environment. Singing and performing locally, she was spotted by the members of Dog n Butterfly ...who were quick to see her potential, and selected her to re-create Nancy's Wilson's hard yet soulful playing and singing style, all with a soft touch of course …and the occasional high kick!
